Innovation, Leadership, and Good Governance

Overview
This program provided a series of lectures, including an overview of the evolution of American government and public administration, an examination of current political issues, and forward-looking introduction to urban development and the concept of “smart cities.” WGI arranged for meetings with local government officials in Maryland, as well as cultural visits to Washington, DC, and to New York City.
Cultural Immersion
Student delegates enjoyed guided tours of America’s two top centers of political and economic power on the East Coast — Washington, D.C. and New York City.
Educational Tours
On the first leg of the program in Washington, D.C., students toured Capitol Hill, as well as city and county government offices in Rockville, Maryland.
Lectures and Workshops
In addition to overview lectures on the evolution of American government and public administration, and contemporary issues in American politics, students were introduced to best practices of local government in delivering public services, the concepts of smart and resilient cities, emergency management, and how new and emerging technologies are impacting governance.
Embassy Visit
The delegation of Filipino students were welcomed during a briefing at the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Washington, D.C..
