Impact
Participants in Washington Global Institute programs recognize the importance of learning from experts in the field, benchmarking their progress, making connections, and seeing first-hand how seasoned practitioners in other countries successfully address the challenges they also face.
We have helped government organizations:
- Adopt best practices for securing peace and security
- Build safe and sustainable communities
- Foster collaborative partnerships

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Public Safety and Peace Nexus Program of the Washington Global Institute for the amazing opportunity it provided our group to learn from the different institutes in Washington D.C.. Those learning will be a great help in advancing our efforts to promote peace and order in the National Capital Region, the country’s premier region and center of development. The international conference gave the Philippine delegation the chance to personally interact with key agencies and share best practices and impart knowledge in areas of peace and order, public security, catastrophe risk reduction and management, cybersecurity, local policing, immigration, and the customs in the US.”

“The Washington Global Institute, through its Public Safety and Peace Nexus Program, gives local government executives, like me, an overview of how government, civil society organizations, think tanks, and academia can work together to achieve societal ends that are free of extreme biases. The talks presented during my study visit helped establish the different areas that I can and should focus more on. I’m always open to opportunities to learn so I can continue developing and implementing programs that promote peace, security, and safety for the people of my beloved city, Novotas.”

“In our meetings with our U.S. counterparts, from bilateral to multilateral and from political to economic and to socio-cultural issues, it is no secret that we continue to deepen and widen the PH-US alliance based on the strong belief that a safe and secure Philippines will further lead to an economically prosperous Philippines.”

“The drive towards smart cities is a response to the complex challenges and opportunities of the Philippine contemporary urban and regional landscape. Smart cities offer practical solutions to make urban living more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. It is important for our Local Government Units to be globally literate to be able to build networks and resources that could help leverage in building and future-proofing cities of tomorrow.”

“The WGI Global Leadership Program has pushed me further toward the career path that I aspire to. I was able to learn and gain a lot of additional knowledge that will help my studies in the future through the lectures from well-respected professors in the United States. Most importantly, I was able to immerse myself in the culture of Washington, D.C., where I saw places of government like the White House and the United States Capitol. This was a rare opportunity I was lucky to have. I will always look back on a lot of unforgettable memories as my inspiration to continue pursuing my dreams and ambitions.”

“This opportunity was something I’d never thought in my life would come, but it did. We were able to learn so much in a span of two weeks about culture, art, and social media and how they can be tied together. The program was well planned down to the smallest detail. We were able to balance classroom-based lectures with the outside tours and knowledge of different cultures. We were also taught about the architecture of Washington, DC, and why the subways are very important there. We were able to practice data analytics, which I still use today. And we were also able to tour different universities, which made me think about grad school, and how it can be a valuable thing to get the connections that we will need in the future.”

“The educational tour is for sure a success because we were able to learn much more than we thought. The environment was welcoming, the people were hospitable, and we were able to adjust really well. The team behind this educational tour really deserves recognition for their hard work in coordinating back and forth with both institutions.”
