A Learning Session and Immersion Program

Overview
This diplomacy and international affairs program was designed specifically for university and college students who wanted to understand and examine how American foreign policy affects international affairs and the global political economy. Experts from various government agencies, think tanks, and non-government organizations in the United States led instructional sessions. The two-week program also included field visits, tours, and meetings in various government offices in the American capital.
Participants were expected to meet three objectives:
1. To understand and examine the evolution of American foreign policy and security
2. To become familiar with various issues and concerns related to international political economy, diplomacy, and international security
3. To learn the roles of different stakeholders and institutions in foreign policymaking, formulating national security strategy, and addressing issues on terrorism and climate change
Best Practices
Student delegates visited the Mayor’s Office and City Council in Rockville, Maryland, to see firsthand how a successful local government administration delivers public services. The program concluded with a site visit to Montgomery County’s Emergency Management Office.
Smart and Resilient Cities
The director of Open Cities offered a briefing held at the Philippine Embassy explaining the importance of proactive planning and design strategies that can help local governments develop the capacity to meet tomorrow’s challenges, including stresses to infrastructure systems.
A Matter of Faith
In a pair of lectures, Dr. J. Prud’homme shared his insights about the evolution of American government and public administration as it pertains to Christianity, and then offered a look at governance and faith in the modern era.
Collaborative Learning
In addition to meeting with industry experts, participants had the opportunity to meet and work with students with similar goals and interests.
